Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Oct 15: The final phase of ULB polls in Jammu and Kashmir are about to finish tomorrow and the general public is eagerly waiting for the results as most of the towns in Kashmir valley have not witnessed any major development in terms of sanitation, dumping of waste management, street lights and much more. According to sources, the solid waste management comprises of various things like of collection, segregation, transportation, and disposal of non biodegradable products that are usually carried out by the Municipal Committees and Councils and the result of waste management is dismal so for. Srinagar being a summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, one can witness that most of the areas remains full of solid waste products, as one can understand that perhaps the department concerned lacks of man power and machinery that can clean the areas during evening hours, sources told Early Times. Sources said that, there are almost 22 districts in JK and every year district sector scheme is announced and for that the state government allocates funds for it.
There are different scheme that are meant for providing of better civic facilities likewise Construction / up-gradation of lanes and drains, lightings, and other works of the towns that are administered by DDCs, said sources.
They said that the urban development sector covers various schemes like of installation of street lights, development of bus addas, development of medium town, and that has been missing in various districts of JK.
Sources also said that, from past few months the department of Urban Local Bodies, has taken various measures for improving Sanitation in all the Urban Local Body Institutions of Kashmir and is contemplating to formulate projects for Solid Waste Management for all the towns for disposal of solid waste on scientific methods. There are also some employees of the concerned department who are either not interested to carry out their jobs honestly or the department is lacking of men and machineries, sources informed.
Sources said that with regards to 'Swachh Bharat Mission' the solid waste management is a huge problem in Kashmir valley especially and the department concerned has no shortage of funds but the people are lacking willingness which becomes a hurdle in the process of keeping towns and cities clean. It has to be seen now that, how the new people who are likely to take care of their towns are willing to develop their towns and cities, so that the problem will be solved forever, the new town plans will show their willingness in the coming days, sources added.
