Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 7: Around six months have passed since the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janta Party alliance collapsed in the state, but most of the former ministers and other lawmakers continue occupy government accommodation including bungalows and other similar resources in the winter capital of Jammu.
Official sources said after June 19, 2018 , when BJP pulled out from Mehbooba Mufti led PDP-BJP coalition government, "all the ministers/legislatures were supposed to vacate their government accommodation including bungalows and other facilities including security vehicles allotted to them."
But till now most of them are yet to return such resources to the state government.
A top officer in the state government said even though notifications have been issued, the concerned have not responded.
Officials said mere three of the beneficiaries including former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, then MoS Priya Sethi and the then CM's Advisor Prof Amitabh Mattoo had vacated the accommodation, while most others are still occupying it.
"Mehbooba Mufti , Prof Amitabh Mattoo , Priya Sethi have vacated from the Jammu quarters, few others had sought some time to vacate the accommodation provided by the government but keys are still not handed over to estates department," said a senior official.
He said of the three, Prof Mattoo was the first to vacate the accommodation provided by the government. Officials said on the day when the BJP pulled out from Mehbooba Mufti led coalition, Prof Mattoo was sitting in his office chamber and that every moment decided to leave the government facilities. "As the news channels started telecasting the news about the fall of Government, he Prof Mattoo asked his staff to immediately handover all the items issued to him or his office to the concerned. He immediately vacated the accommodation at Green Belt Jammu," said a bureaucrat privy to the development that day.
Officials said the Estates department has issued fresh notices to those who "still without any authority enjoy government accommodation."
"Though these former ministers/ legislatures were entitled to reside in these official bungalows for a month and were supposed to vacate them within that period but only few have acted in accordance with the law," officials said.
When contacted the senior official in the Estates Department said the matter was in active consideration of the Raj Bhawan.
