PDP brazenly pursing communal agenda in Jammu
12/7/2018 10:45:13 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 7: Despite facing crushing defeat in two successive assembly elections of 2008 and 2014, PDP leadership is brazenly playing communal card to divide Jammu region purely on religious line to reap political benefits in the coming polls.
In the name of opposing divisional status to Ladakh region, PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today similar status of erstwhile Doda district and Poonch-Rajouri districts. Mehbooba called erstwhile Doda district as "Chenab Valley" and Poonch-Rajouri districts as "Pir Panchal" range to brazenly play communal politics in these two belts ahead of next assembly elections.
In 2008 assembly elections, Mehbooba Mufti had brazenly played communal card in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri whilecampaigning for her party candidates but she had failed to mobile any support for her party. In 2008, PDP had won only seats-Mendhar and Darhal from this belt, that too due to personal influence of the candidates.
Same is the situation in the erstwhile Doda district where there is no taker of PDP's communal politics but party leadership after getting repeated defeat has still pursuing divisive agenda.
The former Chief Minister, while addressing a press conference at Srinagar, warned of an agitation if the state administration, headed by Governor Satya Pal Malik, accords divisional status to Ladakh region, while ignoring Pir Panchal and Chenab valley.
"There are reports that the governor's administration will accord a divisional status to Ladakh. We are not against it. I request the governor and I hope all parties like the National Conference, Congress and others come together on this and demand that if you are giving Ladakh a divisional status, then Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley should also get it."
"If the Governor decides to grant divisional status to Ladakh, then Chenab valley and Pir Panjal should also get it, otherwise we will be forced to agitate peacefully and I will talk to other parties also on this," Mehbooba said.
The PDP president said like Ladakh, Pir Panchal and Chenab valley are also far flung areas of the state and such a decision could establish good governance in these areas.
