| CUS students suffer as teachers go flip-flop on online classes! | | Wards receive text messages at midnight from teachers; Parents appeal LG Murmu |    |

Srinagar, June 4: Even as the Cluster University of Srinagar or the CUS has been telling the government that online classes are going on smoothly, the students have a woeful story to narrate.
The students said that in the name of online classes, at the CUS centers like the one at Amar Singh college, the teachers are holding text chats to share details about tutorials created by other universities.
The students said some of the teachers didn’t hold even one online session on video but that they have been sending text messages to students from time to time.
“How can sending text messages or circulating links for tutorials created by other universities be called online classes,” said some B-school students at the college. The students said even the study material being circulated about other universities was outdated. “They are circulating over a decade old study material. This is really outdated style of teaching,” the students said.
The CUS students also said that the teachers have not been maintaining any timings for such chats either. “We receive text message at midnight that the assignment has been changed as some of the influential students were unable to do the previous one. This is mockery of higher education,” the students said.
The parents said they have decided to raise the issue of Vice Chancellor of the CUS. “Why is there no proper system of holding online classrooms and why aren’t the concerned authorities bothered to check quality control. This is injustice with the students,” a delegation of parents told Early Times.
The students said for the first around 40 days of the lockdown not a single online class was held and that the same can be verified. “We live in digital era and this thing can be verified,” the students said.
Sources said the CUS administration continues to be in alleged mess since its inception by the previous Peoples Democratic Party led government. “This university was created only for political gains otherwise there has been no accountability as most of those given the key positions in the CUS are influential and the same can be confirmed if a probe is ordered into their recruitments,” said a source on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted the CUS authorities said initially there were issues over online classrooms but that all the “concerns have been resolved and that the classes were being held smoothly.”
Meanwhile the students and the parents have appealed Lieutenant Governor LG Murmu to personally look into the matter. | | |
