NRHM in J&K a money minting scandal…….?
1/2/2013 12:15:48 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 1: Flagship national programme, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) is one of the most ambitious and prestigious national level programmes on whose implementation depends the health and well being of millions of people living in the villages of the country.
Like all other such ambitious and well meaning national level programmes, the NHRM in Jammu and Kashmir State has also become a huge money minting scandal. As per the statistics released by the State Government out of Rs. 941 crores an amount of Rs. 741 crores have already been spent out of this plan.
Out of the funds utilized Rs. 321 crores have been utilized on infrastructure development, 400 stakeholders have been imparted training and the implementation of the programme has transformed the health scenario in the State.
Given these official assertions the health scenario in the rural areas of the State should be comparable to the best in the world. The fact is that not only are various hospitals and dispensaries understaffed and badly equipped technically, but their efficiency and effectiveness is highly debatable. NRHM is fast becoming a scandal of sorts as reports of colossal fund mismanagement and misappropriation are galore. Instead of applying itself seriously to the problem of ensuring that NRHM is implemented in the true spirit of this national programme to help the sick and the needy in the rural areas, the State Government is patting its back for achievements under this programme.
