JAMMU, Nov 9: Some leaders of Congress party in Jammu today criticized the reinstatement of Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a joint press statement issued here, Jyoti Vaid, president, Evacuee Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS), who is also an active worker of Congress party in Jammu and Balbir Singh, ward president, District Congress Committee (DCC), Jammu, said that Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, former BJP MLA, who was expelled along with six other MLAs by the party for alleged cross-voting (cash for vote scam) in MLC elections in Jammu & Kashmir and was working against the State BJP since then, announced his return to the party just to show-off his loyalty to it. "Prof. Gupta had also formed a parallel party to unleash propaganda against the BJP and was continuing with it since his expulsion from the party, but now he suddenly changed his colours and joined back," they said and adding, questioned, "It's quite amazing that the BJP, which first expelled him by confirming his involvement in the cross-voting episode, how reinstated him back?" "The six tainted BJP MLAs, who were ousted by the party for alleged cross-voting, including Prof. Gupta, could serve no good to the people in last six years and there was a strong resentment brewing against them," said Jyoti Vaid in the statement. While Balbir Singh maintained that even though BJP had reinstated the expelled MLAs, but they would not be able to win hearts of people again, whom they ditched with their misdeeds and inactive approach in dealing with their grievances and other issues. "The misdeeds of BJP are going to prove detrimental to it in the coming Assembly elections," they added in the statement. |
