BARAMULLA, Apr 28: Government Higher Secondary School Baramulla for Boys was gutted in a fire on January 2013 destroying a major portion of the building. Two years later school building has not been repaired.
Sources told Early Times that, "on January 24, 2014 Government Higher Secondary for Boys was gutted in fire in which major portion of the building was destroyed. After passing of two years the school building was not repaired till date.
During rainy days students find it difficult to visit the school. In dry season they have to bear the brunt of sun.
Nisar Ahmad a student said, "During rainy season water logging causes much incontinence to students and especially female staff and the higher ups are hardly bothered about it.
A group of students said the authorities are not ready to pay any heed to their academic and co-curricular activities since they have nothing at stake.
If the authorities would have taken up this issue seriously in the past, perhaps our school would not have been in such a bad condition.
Our gutted school building couldn't shake the conscience of higher authorities, whereas this school is not only an institution of learning but was an asset of Baramulla town, students added.
However a senior citizen of Baramulla Bashir Ahmad Wani sought release of funds for the building reconstruction.
Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary Baramulla Mehraj-Ud-Din Fafoo told early Times, I visited the concerned authorities several times in past and the estimation for reconstruction work is Rs 59.08 lakhs for the gutted building."
People of Baramulla should have raised voice against this grave issue, and I don't blame district administration or government, because it is learner institution and it is the responsibility of every citizen to make hue and cry so that problem will be resolved at the earliest, Principal said.
Principal added and said that I am an option less and moved from every pillar to post to get the work done but it seems that my wishes and hard work was of no avail.
