Early Times Report

Vijaypur, Apr 28: Former minister and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) general secretary Manjit Singh accused the BJP-led Union government on Tuesday of acting against farmers and poor sections of the society. Speaking at village Abtal in Vijaypur assembly constituency, Singh said that recent heavy rains destroyed crops of farmers, incurring heavy losses on them.
"Like the Union government, the state government especially BJP has ignored the suffering of the farmers in Jammu plains who have suffered major losses," Singh said.
"The BJP leaders kept mum soon after coming to power for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. They don't come out of AC rooms to see the condition of the farmers on ground who have been facing hardships due to damage to crops," he said.
He said that revenue officials also have not visited the farmers to listen to their grievances and asseess the losses.
"Now the farmers are preparing for next crops even as many of them have turned bankrupt. They are dependent on money lenders as the government has not helped them," Singh said.
He appealed the farmers to get ready and unite for a struggle. "Congress party will leave no stone unturned to force the government to consider demands of the farmers. If they fail to do so, Congress will corner them with demonstrations," Singh said.
Those who were present in meeting included Surinder Lal Sharma, Manjit Singh Jyoti, Deepak Choudhary, former Captain Banta Ram, Nanak Singh, former Captain Pal Singh, Madan Choudhary, Lambedar Abtal Sukdev Singh, Lambedar Bhagwan Singh, Joginder Lal, Bittu, Tonna, and Bhagwan Singh.
