Congress pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Oct 3: Congress party workers organised a function and paid homage to Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary at Kathua. Dozens of Congress activists under the leadership of District Congress Committee President Former MLC Subash Chander Gupta paid their rich tributes to the duo leaders of the nation by offering flowers to their photos followed. Paying rich tribute, Subash Gupta said that the essence of Gandhi Jayanti is not restricted with in India but also observed by the United Nations as the International Day of non-violence. The aim is to disseminate his philosophy, principle and belief in non-violence through proper education and public awareness. Depicting Lal Bahadur Shashtri, Subash Gupta and Pamkaj Dogra said that Lal Bahadur Shastri was not only the country's second Prime Minister but also the man behind the revolution of the agricultural sector in India. A loyal follower of Gandhi and Nehru, Shastri is known for his slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kissan" during the 22-day Indo-Pak war of 1965, where he led India to victory.
