Kathua Oct 7: Amar Saheed Surinder Kumar was paid glowing tributes by the people of Kathua at his native Village Garniari near Rajbagh, Kathua today on his anniversary. Bharat Bhushan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua alongwith Bui Lal Sharma and Pushpa Devi - parents of the brave Saheed Surinder Kumar, at the outset, paid floral tributes on the memorial located at Garniari Village near Hamirpur - Rajbagh, Kathua. Ashok Jasrotia, social and political activist of the area apprised the gathering that Surinder Kumar of Grenadiers Unit of the Army attained martyrdom in the prime of his life on 7th October, 2000 under Operation Rakshak while safeguarding the country. Thereafter Caption ( Retd) Gian Singh Pathania accompanied by scores of other decorated retired officers of the Armed forces, former Sarpanch, Jagdish Singh Jamwal, prominent persons of the area and adjoining villages profusely garlanded the statue of Saheed Grenadier Surinder Kumar. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Bharat Bhushan in his address appreciated the contribution of Saheed for the nation and told that contribution of such martyrs will always remain a source of inspiration for the people of the country. He added that we all are proud of our Armed and para-military Forces which are noted for integrity, valour, efficiency and discipline. While responding to the demand of the people to rename Garniari Village as Saheed Surinder Nagar, he assured to take up the matter with Deputy Commissioner, Kathua in this regard. Later, the parents of the Saheed alongwith ADC , Kathua distributed books, note books and fruits among School children. |
