Cong workers protest, demand ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakhs for Uri Martyrs

Vijaypur, Oct 7: Alleging state government not acknowledging the priceless sacrifice by the Army Jawans for nation, the Congress workers in Vijaypur held a strong protest demonstration against the coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir in Vijaypur and demanded Rs 50 Lakh for Uri Martyrs besides a government job to the next of their kin.
Led by JKPCC General Secretary and former Minister Manjit Singh, the congress workers staged a protest dharna against the state government outside the Office of SDM Vijaypur.
Raising slogans against the coalition government for negating the sacrifices of the Army jawans and paramilitary personnel who are fighting militancy in the State, the protestors demanded due compensation to aggrieved families.
"The soldiers who fight for the country on the borders and in Kashmir for the protection of lives and property of the civilian are not given due respects what they deserve," said Congress leader Manjit Singh.
"Other states in India have given compensation to next of the kins of martyred soldiers Rs 50 lakhs, he said, adding, "however, in J&K these soldiers were not given any compensation and there is no policy in the Government." He also said that the Government jobs should also be given to next of kins or children of the martyred soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir by the Government.
Former Minister also reiterated that BJP which always claimed to be 'nationalists' have compromised their principals for the sake of power. He "There is dire need to re-visit their policy and announce compensation to the martyred soldiers as a mark of respect to them and their families," said Manjit Singh.
Meanwhile, he appreciated Indian army for their 'surgical strike' in Pakistan occupied Kashmir where over two dozen terrorists were killed during the operation across the Line of Control.
He said that this strike has boosted morale of the Indian army and the Central Government's decision is appreciable.
Congress is always with any decision taken for the integrity of Country, he said. Later, he handed over a memorandum of demands to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti though SDM Vijaypur.
Citing various examples of martyrdom, Manjit Singh also demanded compensation for soldier of Sarva (Ramgarh) Mulraj of Jakh who lays down his life in Pathankot Encounter and Naib Sub Ram Singh who was martyred while fighting with militant in Assam as theier aggrieved families yet have not been duly compensated by J&K govt.
