'Spurious' khoya seized, sent to lab | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 20: A Food Safety team has seized 216 kilograms of 'spurious' khoya during a surprise raid on a shop here and sent it to laboratory for testing. The raid was conducted on M/s Global Agencies on a tip-off by a team led by food safety officers - Daleep Singh, Ajay Khajuria, Jai Inder Singh and Hans Raj, according to official sources. The raid was part of the department's drive to ensure availability of wholesome sweets on the eve of Deewali to consumers, sources said, alleging that the Global Agencies was involved in selling spurious khoya in the market. During inspection of the premises, 108 packets weighing 216 kg and amounting to Rs 31,104 were found stocked in the cold storage. It was being sold in the name of special sweets, containing ingredients such as skimmed milk powder, milk solids and edible vegetable fat manufactured by M/s Bharti Milk Food Pvt Ltd, Nugal Majara Road, Kungpura, in Karnal, Haryana, and marketed by M/s Goodrich Nutriesters Pvt Ltd, Nagla, Meerut Road, Karnal. The team seized the stocks and sent its two samples to the laboratory for testing. It also lifted one sample of khoya from M/s Daulat Ram and Sons, Raghunath Bazar, as soon as the firm received its consignment from outside the state through railway and sent it to the Food Testing laboratory for analysis. All the food business operators dealing with khoya have been directed to procure and sell only standard quality of it to halwais for the preparation of quality sweets. The halwais were also advised not to procure spurious khoya from any unscrupulous traders at any cost and inform the department about such traders. |
