Need for upgrading security grid in J&K
2/13/2018 8:59:58 PM
Apart from emulating terrorists operating in Afghanistan
militants, operating in Jammu and Kashmir have devised a new strategy. They have been asked to attack the camps of the Army the paramilitary forces and the police stations. In the past 15 days there have been intense exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces, including the Oolice and the Army. A bid was made to attack a camp of CRPF in the heart of Srinagar city but the alert sentry foiled the attack and two militants are holed I nside the camp. And the Director General police S P Vaid has congratulated the CRPF sentry who claimed to have averted the Fidayeen attack on 23 bn of CRPF today morning. DGP wrote on twitter: "I congratulate alert CRPF sentry for avertings Suicidal attack in Karan Nagar Srinagar. Fortunately, two militants are in cordon and exchange of fire is going-on." This attack has come within 12 hours of the major attack on the Army camp at Sunjwan on the outskirts of Jammu in which Army suffered a major loss when its five soldiers were killed by three JeM activists who had managed to sneak into the well fortified Army camp. However, the only satisfaction for the Army is the elimination of three JeM militants. But even if two militants are holed up in the CRPF camp still one CRPF jawan was killed when he was hit by a bullet fired by the militants. Whether securing freedom from police custody for a militant, Naveed, from Multan in Pakistan the police lost two of its constables. And the Pak Army continues to resort to unprovoked firing on the LoC and on the IB. All these developments and incidents call for upgrading the security grid not only within the valley but on the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir where the border villagers feel scared more than what they experienced in 1971 war and during the conflict on Kargil heights in 1999. In this connection the field commanders of the Army, senior functionaries of the paramilitary forces and the police besides the BSF have been told in clear terms to upgrade the security grid in and around all camps, police stations and military units. The security forces besides the police have been directed to carry out round the clock patrolling around their camps, stations and units. Yes the Army have a genuine plea that it had taken more than 36 hours for eliminating three militants who had launched a major attack on the Sunjwan military camp. They say that since militants had sneaked into the quar ters of family members immediate action against them could have caused more deaths to the family members of the Army soldiers and the officers.Hence the commandos, who were su mmoned from Udhampur had to act cautiously to avoid colossal loss of life. But the way these three terrorists sneaked into the otherwise fortified camp is a mystery. It shows some laxity and dereliction of duty on the part of sentries or on the part of the commander or the one incharge of the camp. The security forces have been told to avoid repetition of Sunjwan incident and hence scale up the security grid in and around all the posts, camps, units and police stations. And the Sunjwan type incident or the one staged by militants in the Srinagar hospital for saving the life of Naveed call for upscaling security in all the vital; inst allations in the state, including g the hospitals, hotels and conference halls. The security grid has to be upgraded in the busy shopping centgres. And the union Home Ministry was willing to sanction additional companies of paramilitary forces for providing better security cover in and around vital installations. In addition to this the field commanders, deployed on the LOC and on the IB,have been told whet her they require additional columns of troops and the BSF to retaliate Pak ceasefire violations with force and fury. And if militants keep on attacking posts of paramilitary forces and the police and carry out Fidayeen attack on Army camps it may encourage Pak Army and accelerate the pace of help in helping militants to cross into Kashmir.
