anantnag, Feb 13: Despite adverse weather conditions, thousands of mourners turned to attend the last rites of Kashmiri army men, who were laid to rest on Tuesday. Lance Naik Muhammad Iqbal Sheikh, his father Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh and Constable Monzoor Ahmad were killed in a militant attack at Jammu's Sanjuwan Army Station.
After an improvement in weather, the bodies of slain Kashmiri army men were airlifted today from Jammu to Srinagar. In Srinagar at Badamibagh Army Headquarterm army paid floral tributes to the slain soldiers and later handed over the bodies to their families.
Reports said Thousands of mourners gathered Nigeenpora Tral-native village of Lance Naik Muhammad Iqbal Sheikh- and attend the funeral slain Iqbal Sheikh and his father. Slain Iqbal's father Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh was living with his son in the family quarters at Jammu's Sanjuwan Army Station.
His father, wife and son had gone to Sanjuwan Army Station a couple of days ago to meet him. When heavily armed militants struck at the Station, Sheikh was one among the six soldiers killed in the assault while his father also died in the attack. The soldier Muhammad Iqbal Sheikh was affiliated with Jammu Kashmir Light Infantry who had joined the Force 12 years ago. The soldier is survived by his wife and a son, three sisters, a brother and mother.
At Qazigund, thousands of people gathered to pay tributes to Constable Monzoor Ahmad and to attend his funeral. Slain army man was laid to rest with military honors. The slain solider was left behind ill mother, wife and two kids.
Locals say Manzoor was noble person and was taking care of his brother's family as well as his brother is ill and suffering from disease from last many years.
