Pvt sector should help Govt. in setting up more solar plants
5/1/2018 11:20:27 PM
Though Prime Minister, Narendra Modi claims that his Government has been able to provide electricity to all villages, it is an open question whether the Government will be able to meet the demand for electricity. Since the nation is witnessing a gap between the supply and the demand Last year the demand was around 159 GW and this can increase upto 165 GWAnd it is hoped that this gap may be filled with 34 GW installed wind power capacity according to experts. Wind energy capacity has achieved optimum level in May-June due to the weather system. The solar energy capacity has already crossed 22 GW mark and if the country had to increase the solar energy capacity it could extend the limit by another 5 GW. And the per unit of power may be available for Rs.4 which has been higher than the last year. According to Central Electricity Authority as many as 27 thermal power plants out of 114 are facing coal shortage with the result these thermal power stations are not in a position to produce optimum electricity. All villages in India have now been provided electricity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday. On Saturday evening, Leisang village in Manipur's Senapati district became the last village to be connected to the national power grid. As per official data, there were 18,452 villages without electricity in the country at the time of Modi's taking office in May 2014. "Electricity reached all Indian villages on Saturday," Modi said in a tweet. we fulfilled a commitment due to which lives of several Indians will be transformed forever!" he said in another tweet. The work of bringing power to India's nearly 6 lakh villages had been undertaken under the government's Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. As per government data, 1,236 villages are uninhabited and 35 have been notified as grazing reserves. The government has set the next target of providing electricity connections to over 4 crore rural and urban households by March 2019. Yes that is right for the Government but one has to look into the energy problem being faced by the most sensitive and troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir. But at the same time the central Government in association with the state Governments should make a new beginning for raising the thermal, hydraulic and solar energy and without that the Governments bid to connect four crore household may not be feasible. In this connection the Government has to increase the coal deposits so that all the thermal plants. In addition to this the river water has to be preserved and the only way is to promote solar energy. And there is need for setting solar plants in not only Government sector but in private sector too. There are many millionaires and billionaires in India and they could channelize their resources for helping the Government in setting solar plants. That is a guarantee for future development because as far as coal is concerned the coal mines are shrinking and so are river waters which may threaten thermal energy production and hydraulic energy generation. And it would be better for Modi if he invites foreign investment in setting up solar plants which could bank on the sun which is going to be a permanent help to the mankind in view of coal mines and river water shrinking.
