Rassana Case: CCTV footage eye opener for CB officials
5/2/2018 11:42:30 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 2: The CCTV footage aired by national news channel about one of the accused in the infamous Rassana rape and murder case, Vishal Jangotra standing in a queue inside an ATM kiosk at Meerapur in Muzzaffarnagar, where he was pursuing his studies, has put a question mark on the investigation in the case carried out by Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The date and time recorded by the purported CCTV footage have put a question mark on the claims made by CB in the chargesheet, wherein it has reported that the accused was in Rassana on the said date at the same time.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The footage aired by the Zee News has proved it beyond doubt that the investigation carried out by the Crime Branch is flawed and has many loopholes."
He said, "People of Rassana from the day one have been demanding CBI probe into the incident as they know it very well that Crime Branch has messed up the probe and was in a hurry to produce the challan."
The Crime Branch claimed in its chargesheet that accused Vishal Jangotra boarded train from Ghagwal on January 15 at 4 PM, the CCTV footage, which was identified and confirmed by the family of the accused showed that Vishal was present in the ATM kiosk at 3 PM, for the next few minutes till he completed his transaction. Investigations confirmed that the accused used the ATM card of her sister and he withdrew an amount of Rs. 1000/- out of Rs. 3000/- which were deposited in the said account the same day.
An observer said, "The CCTV footage aired by the news channel is a crucial evidence and if it's proved that the accused was not present at Rassana on that very day it would puncture the investigations carried out by the CB."
He said, "If it's proved that CB has booked the youth on frivolous charges then the CB officials who have turned a student into an accused could face the heat."
It may be recalled that in the murder case of an eight year old student of Ryan International School in Gurgaon, Haryana Police had arrested a bus conductor and had presented him as an accused in the case. However, the case was later handed over to CBI which reinvestigated the case and arrested a Class 11 student of the same school on the charges of murdering the victim as he wanted to delay examinations.
The CBI had said that it had not found evidence of murder against bus conductor Ashok Kumar, arrested by the Gurgaon Police on charges of murder and sexual assault.
Another analyst said, "If it's proven in the court that CB has botched up the investigations the officials should be punished so that it serves as a deterrent."
