Stone pelters return, PDP’s amnesty decision backfires

Jammu, May 2: Stone pelters attacking tourists at Aishmuqam near Pahlagam in south Kashmir on Tuesday is an ample proof of the fact that decision of the PDP-BJP government to grant amnesty to stone-pelters has backfired.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Granting amnesty to stone-pelters was a wrong decision. It has encouraged them. Now they are openly targeting tourists and students as they know it very well that no action would be taken against them.”
He said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party took a decision to grant amnesty to 9000 stone-pelters in a hurry as it wanted to appease the separatists and the Paksitani stooges present in the Valley.
On Tuesday seven tourists were injured when miscreants pelted stones at their vehicles. The injured were part of a group of 47 tourists travelling in four vans.
The windowpanes of the vans were shattered due to the stone-pelting and tourists couldn’t proceed with their journey till late in the night due to the fear of stone-pelters.
An observer said, “If PDP led government wants peace to prevail in Kashmir it should allow the law enforcing agencies to act sternly against the miscreants and book all of them for disturbing peace. Granting them amnesty and appeasing the separatists won’t serve any purpose.”
A politician said, “It’s unfortunate that some elements in the ruling party believe that they cannot survive without the support of the separatists.”
On Wednesday stone pelters attacked the buses carrying school students in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A police official said that the school bus of Rainbow International school was attacked by "miscreants" with stones near Zavoora village.
In the incident two minor students suffered injuries and where taken to nearby hospital where from a seriously injured student namely Rehan Gorsai (2nd Class student) was referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
A Kashmir watcher said that stone-pelters getting active again should serve as an eye opener for those who sympathize with the stone-pelters and act as their advocates. “They are criminals and deserve to be punished. Granting amnesty is no solution,” he added.
