Cash-starved Hurriyat seeks Ramzan charity
NIA raids fallout
6/9/2018 10:47:25 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jun 9: The NIA raids have left the Hurriyat Conference cash starved, compelling it to seek 'zakat' from the people during the ongoing holy month of Ramzan.
There are enough hints being given by the Hurriyat members about how the conglomerate is facing severe cash paucity and how they have no option insight other than to seek alms from the people.
It is none other than the separatist from the Geelani faction of Hurriyat, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, who is presently in news for seeking pension hike as former MLA from the present government. This separatist leader has even gone into public terming pension his right.
On May 14, what was perhaps ignored by the majority of the press was the statement of the same separatist, seeking donations from people to run the Hurriyat. This is for the first time that the circumstances have compelled the Hurriyat to come out and seek alms during Ramadan. This month Muslims generally donate money to the poor and call it zakat and sadqa. The Hurriyat shamelessly has begun to seek such donations for itself.
Sumji had made a appeal to the people and resourceful persons of the society to donate towards the Hurriyat for carrying its mission. Sumji had said that the Hurriyat has always pursued the noble mission of helping unprivileged and those in distress.
While appealing for charity donations for the Hurriyat in the month of Ramzan, Sumji said that this is the month of patience, tolerance and sympathy, and the Muslims all over the world donate generously in this month for their downtrodden brethren.
"It is the month of charity and it creates a beautiful environment of helping each other," Sumji had said, adding that fasting "teaches us a noble lesson and it is as such we feel the pain of those who are needy and unprivileged."
"Since last seven decades, the nation has presented unparalleled sacrifices and nourished movement with their blood. Hundreds are languishing in jails and detention centers and their families are in distress and looking for our help," the statement said.
The statement in itself is a clear indication about the fact that how the separatists who were acting as the surrogate children of Pakistan in Kashmir are done high and dry without the money that used to come from Pakistan for their illegitimate activities.
The NIA raids have left such a serious dent on their functioning that their true colours have begun coming to the fore. From seeking donations to seeking hike in the pension, the truth is that the Hurriyat is finding it extremely difficult to survive without money.
There are already reports coming to the fore about how the stone pelting incidents witnessed a dip post-NIA raids on separatists in Kashmir. This has led to the conclusion that the Hurriyat was all about money in Kashmir.
