Mob Lynching politics
8/12/2018 11:11:51 PM
Omkar Dattatray

It is the irony and misfortune
of India that everything and anything is politicized for petty political interests and vote bank. The same is true with most inhuman and abominable activity of mob lynching. Mob lynching has no place in a civilized and world's largest democracy. It cannot be justified on any pretext whatsoever. It is the 18th century mindset and should not be resorted to on any reason as it is unjust, inhuman and criminal activity.
It is particularly more abominable in a plural and secular democracy of India. Lynching is illegal and inhuman activity and should be discouraged by all of us and the TV channels should not make it a subject of hot discussion only to increase their TRP ratings. Mob lynching in the guise of protecting cow and under the grab of Cow vigilantism should be dealt with an iron hand as it has the ramification of disturbing communal amity and peace in the diverse society and as such should not be tolerated and no one should be allowed to take law into his or her hands.
India is a multi-religious, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-dimensional and diverse country where people belonging to various faiths and religious denominations live together in peace and tranquility. In such a diverse and multi religious country, mob lynching in the name of protecting cow has the potential of leading to communal disharmony which may lead to national disintegration when national integration is badly required for peace, economic development and societal upliftment of the country.
Cow is a scared animal and has an important religious significance for the Hindu community. Protection of cow and other milich giving animals and calf is a well defined directive principle of the state policy enshrined in the constitution. Protection of cow and calf should be left to government as it is the domain of government to look after the protection of cow which is pious to all of us.
There are laws for the protection of scared animal and there is no place for the creation of mob hysteria. Mob lynching in the guise of cow protection or on any other account is inhuman and uncivilized and as should be discouraged. Resorting to politics on this inhuman and barbaric activity is a very painful and disturbing phenomenon which will reduce Indian democracy to mobocracy and doomocarcy and thus this trend should be nipped in the bud to save the democratic and secular character of the land.
Lynching of thieves, lynching of the policemen on duty, lynching of the dalits and weak are all abominable and should be curbed and dealt with sternly so that democratic credentials of the nation will not suffer an irreparable loss.
Mob lynching cases are happening in various parts of the country in 21th century India which boasts of democracy and secularism. Mob lynching puts all of us to shame and the way this inhuman issue is politicized is more worrying and painful which has the potential of adverse ramifications for peace and stability in sensitive and diverse country where unity in diversity is the cardinal principle of the secular democracy. India has been a tolerant nation from the ages where people belonging to various faiths and ethnic groups and cultures co-exists and prosper. We have allowed foreign cultures to flourish on our soil and thus there should be no mob lynching in the grab of cow protection or on any other pretext.
The law should be allowed to take its course and no one however high or low should in any circumstance be allowed to tinker with the law. Mob lynching cannot be associated with any particular religion as it is a criminal activity and criminal mindset can be in any community and thus to associate it with majority community is bad. But the majority community has the moral responsibility to protect and safeguard the minorities and supplement the efforts of the government in this regard otherwise we cannot claim to build a new India where everyone irrespective of religion and faith will be safe and sound. We can rebuild new India only when there will be peace and the sectarian and communal violence will be things of yester years. Thus mob lynching should be condemned, discouraged and curbed if we have to build a strong and new India as a big economic power.
Mob lynching taking place in various parts of the country is very painful, shameful and disturbing development which should be put to halt to save our plural and secular democracy and to uphold the rule of law. Mob lynching takes us back to 18th century and primitive days of jungle raj where there were no laws, rules and regulations and therefore should not be tolerated. Government should be allowed to take action against law violators and the people should not be a party to law violation which has the potential of disturbing peace and progress in the country.
Therefore mob lynching on any pretext should be curbed with an iron hand as it badly affects the peace and communal amity in our country which is so diverse religiously and culturally. The political parties of various colors and hues should not fish in troubled waters to take a political mileage out of this abominable and inhuman tragedy rather they should help the powers that be to contain this barbaric, inhuman and illegal activity for the good of this nation. Therefore with one voice all political parties should condemn mob lynching and refrain from making it a political tool to weaken the country and to score brownie points.
Since law and order is a state subject and therefore all state governments should deal with this inhuman activity strictly to maintain the rule of law and its supremacy. No one should be allowed to tinker with the law and the law violators and unruly mobs that resort to mob lynching should be put behind bars and severe punishment should be given to them so that this issue will be curbed and the country is saved from disturbance and violence. The primitive mindset and mob lynching are alien to our culture and should as such be discouraged and the secular democracy saved for the welfare of its citizens without any distinction of caste, creed, color or sex. Otherwise we will stoop to the 18th century which will take us back to the days of ignorance and illiteracy.
Therefore for saving our secular and plural democracy mob lynching which has no place in 21th century India should be curbed and discouraged for the good of the nation.
