ULB polls: DEO Jammu ignores complaint against BJP candidate | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 6: Despite directions from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to look into the complaint filed by an activist claiming that the state subject certificate submitted by a candidate in the local body elections seems to be fake, the concerned District Election Officer (DEO) Jammu is allegedly showing reluctance to inquire the matter prior to voting which is scheduled to be held on October 8. Sunil Kumar of village Gandharwan, Akhnoor had filed a complaint with the DEO on October 4 seeking verification of the state subject certificate submitted by Kuldeep Raj who has filed his nomination papers for ward No.12 as a BJP candidate. Sensing no action by the DEO, the complainant emailed his complaint to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer following which Additional Secretary in the office of the CEO sought appropriate action under law. "I am directed to enclose herewith a copy of compliant dated 5-10-2018, received from Sunil Kumar of village Gandharwan in Akhnoor, regarding the subject for favour of information and appropriate action under rules", reads the communication issued from the office of the CEO Jammu and Kashmir to the DEO. Citing being busy due to election process, the DEO said that the matter would be verified. "And action can be taken after results", the DEO told the complainant over the phone. The complainant rued that if the candidate won the election from the said ward and after verification if his candidature was found illegal then there would be re-election in the ward putting burden on the state exchequer. The CEO, Shaleen Kabra, was not available for comment. |
