Lashkar militant killed in Pulwama encounter, accomplice injured | | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 13: A local militant owing allegiance to banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba was killed in an encounter with police and security forces in South Kashmir's Pulwama district in the wee hours today. An accomplice of slain militant has been injured and admitted at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital. His condition is stated to be critical since he has suffered grievous injuries in the vital organs of the body. Reports said that police and security forces cordoned off the Babagund village in Pulwama after they received inputs that some militants are hiding there. As the area was cordoned the militants hiding fired upon the advancing party of police as well as security forces. As a result of this a full-fledged encounter ensued between the two parties. Reports said that since the cordon and search operation was carried out during the night at least one militant managed to slip away from the cordon. The gunfight culminated with the death of one militant while as yet another militant sustained grievous injuries. A house suffered damages during the gunfight. The slain militant has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar while as the identity of injured militant has not been revealed by the police so far. Authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in Pulwama town and some other places in order to quell protests from people. A police spokesman said that police and security forces in the early morning hours today launched a cordon and search operation in Kangan area of district Pulwama based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area. "During the search operation militants fired on the search party leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter one militant was eliminated. He has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Sangri-Samboora, Pampore. He was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT and was involved in attacks on security establishments," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that many cases prominent among them include 162/2016 under section 13 (I)-B, 16, 18 UL(A)P Act at P/S Pampore and 277/2018 under section 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act at P/S Pulwama were registered against him. "In this operation, no collateral damage took place besides incriminating materials including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Moreover, one suspect who was part of a same terror group that was engaged in encounter at Pulwama has been admitted to a hospital in Srinagar with a bullet injury," said the spokesman. Police is ascertaining his identity and other related facts of the incident. A case has been registered and investigation initiated in the instant matter, said the spokesman. |
