Refuses to provide information on POJK refugees
State govt disregards HM's repeated reminders
10/21/2018 11:15:42 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 21: The State government has been showing utter disregard to the repeated reminders forwarded by Union Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the objections raised by refugees over the alleged, "sufficient package and other compensation" given to refugees from time to time.
According to the sources, the Joint Parliamentary Committee as well as the then state government had recommended Rs. 25-30 Lakhs compensation to per family of POJK refugees but the FFR division of Home Ministry, while announcing the compensation had reduced the amount to Rs. 5.50 Lakhs per family.
"In reference to the reduced amount to Rs. 5.50 Lakhs, the Union Ministry had given reference of sufficient number of packages including agricultural land, housing plots, houses and cash assistance given to POJK refugees from time to time as reason", sources said, adding that these claims were refuted by JK Sudan of MJR-47, and had written letters to Union Home Ministry as well as Prime Minister Office.
The Union Home Ministry in turn had written to Secretary (Relief and Rehabilitation) J&K government for furnishing the details of the packages given to the refugees from time to time. After sending repeated reminders, the Union Home Ministry had sent a latest reminder to Secretary Relief and Rehabilitation directing them to furnish the details without any further delay but so far no such reply has been given.
"The state government has been shying away from send the details because the claim of giving sufficient packages was actually a white lie", Suchwant Singh, chief spokesperson of MJR-47 said.
"In last 70 years, we were given ex-gratia amount of Rs. 3500 sanctioned by Union government in 1960 but the J&K government had deducted the cost of Agriculture land to the tune of Rs. 2500 when the cost of land was very low. An amount of Rs. 2250 was deduced for a plot of few marlas in Rehari area but at that time the cost of one Kanal plot in Gandhi Nagar was Rs. 1500", Singh said, adding that the Sheikh Abdullah led government had given a load of Rs. 500 to refugees but out of Rs. 3500, that loan amount was also deducted along with interest.
JK Sudan, convenor of MJR 47,said that the refugees have actually purchased the lands from state government but the state government has been projecting the issue in wrongful manner, depriving them of their due share. "State government had recommended reservation to wards of refugees in technical and higher educational institutions but nothing has been done", he said.
The refugee leaders further said that they had high hopes with BJP but the hopes have been dashed to ground and refugees would teach a lesson to all political parties in coming days. They see a wider game plan of state government to keep the issue of POJK refugees under carpet due to some unknown reasons.
