Over 9 quintal poppy straw recovered, two held

Jammu, Nov 1: In continuation to operation 'Sanjeevani' launched by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu- Vivek Gupta, today Jammu police claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered over 9 quintals poppy straw from their possession in two separate incidents at Gangyal and Nagrota area.
Police sources said that acting on information SI Nayat Ali-SHO Gangyal under the supervision of DySP Sunniya Wani-SDPO South and Vinay Sharma-SP South raised a naka kunjwani and intercepted a tanker bearing registration number JK02AC-1822.
"During search of the tanker approximately 9 quintal poppy straw was recovered", said police sources adding that the driver of the tanker disclosed his identity as Mushtaq of Noorbagh, Qamarwari.
Police said that exact quantity of the consignment has to be ascertained only after weight which police was doing when last reports came in.
Meanwhile, Nagrota Police today claimed to have arrested one drug peddler along with 06 Kilogram Poppy Straw police spokesman said that today police party of Nagrota police raised a special naka near TCP Nagrota NHW A1.
"During naka checking, one vehicle Tanker bearing registration number DL1GC-2008 which was coming from Udhampur side towards Jammu was signaled to stop", said spokesman adding that during questioning, the driver disclosed his identity as Rashpaul Sharma of Village Jasor Tehsil RS Pura.
Spokesman further said that during checking of the vehicle, 06 Kgs. of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle which had had concealed in a specially made cavity under the seat.
The drug peddler arrested on spot and in this connection, a case under FIR No. 267/2018 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. Police team led by Inspector Deepak Pathania-SHO Nagrota made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Mohan Lal Sharma-SDPO Nagrota, Dushyant Sharma-SP Rural Jammu and Vivek Gupta-SSP Jammu.
