JAMMU, Nov 20: A Technical Workshop on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY), a Prime Ministers' Flagship Programme was conducted today at Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu under the chairmanship of Director Agriculture Kashmir, Altaf Andrabi who is also Mission Director PMFBY.
The workshop was attended by Director Agriculture Jammu, H. K. Razdan, Deputy Mission Director, PMFBY, K. K. Sharma, Tarvinder Singh, Joint Director Horticulture, Jammu, State Heads of Insurance companies (RGICL, ICICI/L & OIC), Representatives of Banks and Officers of the Agriculture Department.
Speaking on the occasion Director of Agriculture, Kashmir Altaf Andrabi stressed on coordination between all agencies involved in implementation of PMFBY scheme on ground level keeping in the view the overall welfare of farming community as the crop insurance as an important safeguard against vagaries of weather and crop losses in particular.
Andrabi asked the stakeholders create awareness about the benefits of the scheme and motivate the farmers to adopt this scheme far stabilizing their income, ensuring the cheep credit flow in agriculture sector and mitigating the risk from crop losses due to adverse weather conditions. He also directed the concerned Insurance Companies to Open their offices at District level to facilitate the farming community as financial literacy of the farmer is the core issue in making the farmer a good entrepreneur.
