RSS taking the plunge, UT for Ladakh, delimitation for Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 25: Convinced that the J&K BJP has virtually become an "object of contempt and ridicule" both in Jammu and Ladakh, once its core constituencies, the RSS has taken the plunge to help the "unpopular" BJP retrieve the situation and regain the ground it lost after March 1, 2015, when the BJP "ditched its core constituencies" and shook hands with the Valley-centric and militant and Pakistan-friendly PDP of Muftis. It's a different issue that the RSS itself had then and thereafter repeatedly backed the PDP-BJP coalition government and "condoned the crimes" the BJP committed to keep its masters in Kashmir on its right side. The RSS has sent its top leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi to Jammu for three days to study the whole situation and do what he can to help the BJP win over its alienated constituencies. Joshi is number two in the organization, considered the world's biggest organization. His visit to Jammu commenced on Tuesday and during the next two days, he would meet people belonging to different walks of life and listen to their views. He would meet all the Jammu-based Sangh Parivar leaders, including the local BJP leaders. He will also meet civil society groups to ascertain their views about the burning issues in the state in general and Jammu and Ladakh in particular. Sources in the Parivar say that "the RSS leader is more concerned over the issues facing Jammu and Ladakh". "Ladakhi Buddhists are seething with anger because the BJP went back on its solemn commitment that it, if voted to power, will grant UT status to Ladakh within 90 days and also include Bhoti language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The BJP is in complete disarray. Its top leader and lone Ladakhi MP Thupstan Chhewang has resigned both from Lok Sabha and the party accusing BJP national general secretary and in-charge J&K Ram Madhav and J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina of badly letting down the people of Ladakh," a credible source in the Parivar said on the condition of anonymity. "The situation in Jammu is no better for the BJP. The BJP had held out a number of promises to garner votes in Jammu. It had promised delimitation commission. It had promised citizenship rights for Hindu-Sikh refugees living in Jammu since 1947. It had promised adequate compensation to refugees from PoJK. It had reassured internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus that they would be properly rehabilitated and their aspirations would be appreciated. The BJP had held out a solemn commitment that it, if voted to power, will end discrimination with Jammu and attain for Jammu a status it deserved in the state polity. It created a history of sorts by winning all the two Lok Sabha seats and 25 of the 37 Assembly seats in Jammu. But the BJP let down the people of Jammu by not fulfilling any of the promises it made during its 2013-2014 election campaign and through its 'Vision Document' released in November 2014 in Jammu. It squandered the opportunity in its desperate bid to enjoy loaves and fishes of office by keeping the Muftis in a good humour. It caused more harm to Jammu than the Congress," the same source said. If this source is to be believed, and there are cogent reasons to believe it, then it can be said that the top RSS leader will "endorse the UT demand in Ladakh and ask the BJP to ensure appointment of a delimitation commission so that Jammu got due share of representation in the assembly". "The RSS leadership will urge PM Narendra Modi to do the needful before February 2019," the source said, adding that "there are many elements in the Parivar who not only UT status for Ladakh, but also want a definite political instrument for Jammu so that the people of the province managed their own socio-economic and politico-administrative affairs themselves and the Kashmir's 71-year-old domination ended". |
