Oblivious of its own misrule, PDP points finger at Guv Administration

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 13: Peoples Democratic Party seems to have forgotten that its rule in the state has ended just six months ago and it cannot hold governor administration responsible for the mess it created in the state during its tenure.
On Sunday, the party in a statement accused the Governor administration of ignoring Kashmir in major fields like education and tourism and deliberately freezing the strategies adopted by the PDP government to put these sectors back on track.
However, what the party seems to have forgotten is the fact that when the PDP was ruling the state there were 683 schools in JK which recorded less than 30 percent of the result. Again of out of these 683 schools, 476 which were around 70 percent in total, were in Jammu region of the state. Several times such an issue has come to fore but there are unknown reasons why government is acting as a mute spectator.
Besides the departmental survey, a study done by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) also revealed that nearly 80 percent of the schools in the JK were without electricity, but little has been done to address this issue.
In the study, ASSOCHAM has listed 10 states with poor electricity supply in schools. The Jammu and Kashmir ranks fourth in the list. The states topping the list include Bihar, with just 8.1% of schools having electricity, and Jharkhand (12.0 %) and Assam (15.9%). There are as many as 6000 schools in the state without electricity. The survey has also revealed that 75 percent of schools have no computer labs.
Meanwhile, directing for upgradation of schools, the Union Minister had in July last year said that it is high time that the schools should be upgraded from middle to high and high to higher secondary levels. He had even assured the central assistance in the initiative.
However, at present when Governor's rule has been put in place, the PDP seem to have been acting like an ostrich with head stuck in sand. "How could the PDP at present hold Governor administration responsible for the failure ion education sector. What was the party doing when it was heading the state and had the Education Ministry. There are lots of questions that the PDP has to answer," said an official of the education department adding that there were thousands of government run schools without electricity, water supply and concrete structures in the state when PDP was in power but the party paid no heed to these issues.
