Locals stages protest demonstration, block National Highway

RAMBAN, Feb 27: Locals of Ramban staged a protest demonstration against Gammon India Limited for adopting unprofessional way in constructing the National level project of four laning and damaging Ramban town, here today. They shouted slogans against Gammon India Limited, the company constructing the 1.8-km flyover behind the Ramban bazaar on the banks of the Chenab, for alleged negligence due to which about 50 metre of the link road has caved in besides damaging the national highway falling under Ramban town. They said that till the restoration work of road and other damaged of Ramban town will repaired, they won't allow the GAMMON Company to start work for four laning.
They threatened that if their demands will not fulfill their will shut the whole Ramban till their demands completed. The sunken road has snapped the link to the District Administrative Complex and the part of town across the Chenab.
The damage has also posed a serious threat to the NH44 and cracks were also witnessed in the building of Jammu and Kashmir Bank Jammu Ramban beside other adjoining houses. People demanded compensation and restoration of Maitra-Ramban link road besides NH44 at earliest.
Later, the protesters dispersed after the intervention of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Ramban Asgar Malik who assured timely solution.
