Rana seeks renaming of IIT after Mian Didoo, constitutes scholarship fund

JAGITI NAGROTA APRIL 21- National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Sunday reiterated its demand of renaming Indian Institute of Technology at Nagrota after Mian Didoo as a humble tribute to the great Dogra warrior.



“It will be a befitting homage to the illustrious son of the soil, who fought for the cause of millions, irrespective of religion, cast, creed and colour”, Mr Rana said at a function held in observance of the birthday celebration at Mian Didoo Ji Devsthan, Jagti in Nagrota, organized by Mian Didoo Welfare Committee.

Mr Rana demanded 50 per cent reservation in the non-academic and other subordinate positions of the IIT for the locals, describing them as major stakeholders in the establishment of this prestigious national level institution.



Mr Rana also announced the setting up of a Fund for grant of scholarship to outstanding boy and girl, two students each of the metric and 12th classes, to promote standard academics at the higher education level. He made the initial contribution for the Fund, which will be devoted to the uplift of educational facilities.



Prominent among those who paid tributes to Mian Didoo included Retired Session Judge Mr Udhey Veer Singh, Judge Mr Pavitra Singh, President Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, Mr Romesh Arora, MLC, Mrs Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor JMC, Mr Zorawar Singh, Team Jammu, Mr Mohan Singh Slathia, author, Mr Rakesh Singh Jamwal, Mr Sukhdev Singh Jamwal (Veeru), Mr Dhananter Singh, Mr Jagdish Singh Jamwalm Mr Rakesh Singh Raka besides Panches and Sarpanches of the area, They paid rich homage to the Dogra Pride Mian Didoo.



Mr Rana also presented mementos to Mr K. K. Gandhi, artist, who sketched the magnificent portrait of Mian Dido, Mr Mohan Singh Slathia, writer and Mr Randhir Singh Raipuria, Dogri poet.



Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sumant Singh Jamwal, Vice President Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, dwelt upon the life and struggle of Mian Didoo, saying reverence for the great warrior is still echoing in the folk songs sung in his remembrance by the indebted people.



Paying tributes to Mian Didoo, he said the land of warriors will never compromise with the identity and dignity for which Mian Didoo waged a relentless war over two centuries ago.



While paying homage to the great warrior, Mr Zorawar Singh of Team Jammu said that Mian Didoo has left an indelible imprint of his selfless service towards the society and his life will continue to serve as a guiding philosophy to coming generations.

Others while paying tribute urged the intelligentsia and opinion leaders to come forward and generate awareness about the towering spiritual figures like Mian Didoo, who strived all his life for strengthening the bonds of communal amity and brotherhood.

The speakers pledged to work for retaining the character of the Duggarland, as per the vision of heroes like Mian Didoo by further strengthening the spirit of accommodation, coexistence and tolerance.
