Early Times Report Jammu, June 3: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would contest the forthcoming Assembly elections from the Gandhi Nagar constituency as an Independent candidate, on Monday conducted his door-to door campaign in Old Satwari's main Market, some wards of Bhour Camp, Guvindpur Kullain opposite to Cantonment Area of Jammu near Chatha Chowk. During the one-to-one contact, the Early Times editor interacted with locals and patiently listened to their problems. The locals informed Munish Gupta that the residents are facing lot of problems in the absence of basic amenities like proposed nallah from Mill Mohalla. "Every politician who comes here to get vote either during Cantonment area election, Panchayati election or the Lok Sabha elections, all of them give assurances that a nallah would be constructed soon. But their promises are never translated into action, with the result people of the areas are living in unhygienic condition, even in the presence of major schemes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan", said Inderjeet Singh. If anyone visits Mill Chowk, one can find tonnes of garbage accumulated on the bank of main nallah which has been converted into a garbage dump. Obviously, the nallah emanates foul smell and no one seems to bother," said another local. Bhushan Sharma, a resident of Ward No. 3 near People Academy Mohalla of Old Satwari told Munish Gupta that more than one decade ago "I and my four brothers constructed our home. Since then we are running from pillar to post to construct a lane and get electric poles. But our pleas have always fallen on deaf ears of the departments concerned. They come up with proposal, then a Detailed Project Report is prepared, but at execution level they do nothing", Sharma added. Barbal Kumar, a labourer, of Govindpur Kullaian said that last year during the monsoon, inclement weather and devastating flood had collapsed his home and thereafter he visited all the offices and appraised local MLA. "He (MLA) promised to help me rebuild my house, but to no avail." |
