6/22/2019 11:54:12 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 22: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency on Saturday conducted extensive tour of Nai Basti as a part of his mass contact programme.
During his visit he met people from all walks of life in Ward No. 23 and its mohalla like Lala Chowk, Peer Baba Gali and Ram Lila Chowk and its adjoining market.
Residents informed Munish Gupta about the common problems that plague the whole locality particular poor sanitation, lanes and by lanes are in dilapidated condition and drains being choked. "We are living in unhygienic environment and are vulnerable to diseases and infections," the locals said.
They castigated former Congress and BJP MLAs, who represented the constituency time to time." If someone initiated the development work during his tenure, the successor halted the work due to unknown reasons," said Tariq Hussain residing near Peer Baba Gali.
He told Munish that the upgradation work of Vijay Park was initiated by former MLA Raman Bhalla but the successor halted the work midway, leaving the residents in lurch," he said.
"The nonchalant attitude of successive MLAs can be gauged from this fact that in the only park of the locality nine transformers were installed and one tube well was dug by the ERA. This has left morning and evening walkers craving for space", said Vijay Singh, President of Mohalla Sudarak Smiti and added that the digging of tube well was started during Raman Bhalla tenure's and inauguration was done by Sham Lal Choudhary in the presence of Kavinder Gupta but our locality still faces severe water crisis.
Yog Raj, resident of the same ward informed Munish that the only nallah passing through their locality from Shiva Gas Agency to Rampura Puli is totally blocked. "We approached the JMC to carry out cleanliness drive to unblock it. Though today a team of Safai Karamcharis came here to unblock the nallah but they unblocked some portion of it and left," Santosh said. "Our drains are blocked and not covered with steel grills. We live amidst stink and filth. The local corporator just made tall promises and failed to keep up his word."
"Our locality Tube well water is supplied to another locality. We consume contaminated water due to leakage in supply pipes. In this regard our repeated pleas to PHE have not yielded any result so far", said Ashok Kumar.
Darshan Devi who residing near Lala Chowk informed Munish that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban (PMAY-U) she submitted her documents to the concerned department and even informed the local Corporator Pawan Singh but " No one paid any heed towards my pleas. I have no money to repair my only room which was damaged in an earthquake," she added.
"Arun and Turan (10 year old), twin brother lost their parents in 2014. Now both of them are living with their paternal aunt but have no BPL cards. They urged to local corporator and even former MLA to direct the Public Distribution Department to provide them with the BPL cards but their pleas went unheard", said Tarun and Arun's aunt Bandan.
