Qasim Nagar residents rued poor condition of Nallah, drains, roads, electricity

JAMMU, July 24: The residents of Qasim Nagar living only a few kilometers from the city centre criticise the politicians and the concerned authorities for neglecting them on all the developmental fronts making the life of people living in this part of Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency difficult.
The roads, drains, electricity and importantly an open nallah flowing through the area poses threat to life.
Speaking to "Early Times", the people said that the leaders come only during elections for votes. "However this time we have resolved to vote for the candidate who would woork for the development of the area," they said.
They said that most of the people living in this area are labourers.The women work as domestic helpers and as life from hand to mouth.
The most difficult problem according to the people in the area is an open Nallah without a bridge.
They said that due to no improper embankments and sinking boundaries, the people living on either side of the Nallah are suffering.
The people inform that several persons including children fall into the open Nallah.
"I had a fall due to sinking of a land outside my home-I had a fracture in my leg as a result of which doctors replaced my hip-No one came forward for my help-I even wasn't able to walk" said 70 year old Murti Devi.
Raj Devi said that stagnant water behind her house has become a threat for them as rodents and snakes enter into her home added that there is no drain in her locality.
Another elderly women Usha Goswami said that she also had a fall and slammed the authorities for the poor condition of the locality and called upon the authorities to immediately look at the issues and problems rfaced by the people of Qasim Nagar. Goga Ram and Amit Kumar, both handicapped told the "Early Times" that government fail to clear their pension cases beside also failed to give them other benefits under handicapped category.
"I am visiting Social Welfare Office for last 3 years-Even though I submitted the documents of my handicapped son-nothing was done by the department-I also visited the office of Social Welfare last week and the excuse was similar to previous occasion" Said widower Sharda Devi, mother of Amit Kumar.
Om Prakash who submitted the documents related to old age pension in Social Welfare Department in 2017 has a similar story to tell.
Des Raj said that JDA allotted around 65 plots adjacent to the locality to rich people.
Kartik Dev, Mohammad Saleem, Mohammad Hassan, Sunny Giri, Ikram Hussain, Mohammad Robby, Dharma, Sunita Devi Guddi Devi, Sanjokta Devi all narrate the same story of pathetic condition of the people living in the area.
Seema Verma says that there is no proper water supply in the area added that the people receive water supply for 15-20 minutes daily which is not sufficient for them. She said that they have even constructed underground water tank, but same is of no use for them as there is no regular water supply in her locality.
She also showed the poor condition of the drain and the dig out roads adding to the miseries of the poor people living in the locality.
Ram Krishan said that the authorities left the IHL bathroom construction inside his home mid way.
"I have a young daughter at home-where will she go for toilet - How at this age we will ask her to go outside" said Kajal Devi wife of Ram Krishan. They said that they visited the authorities several time, but of no use as authorities fail to construct the toilet inside their home.
Open Mouth Nallah: The most difficult problem according to the people in Qasim Nagar is open mouth Nallah divided the locality into two halves which has become cause of concern for the people as there is no bridge over the said Nallah nor there is any pullie over it so that people can cross over it. Due to no proper embankments over the Nallah and its sinking boundaries, the people living on either side of the Nallah are suffering as the situation is threatening the submergence of their houses.

See the condition of road-the authorities dig it and then never repaired it-during rains, people of the locality faces lot of inconvenience
