Residents of Marble Market-Trikuta Nagar want realignment of Metro route

Jammu, Feb 4: The residents, shopkeepers of Trikuta Nagar and Marble market localities have appealed for realignment of proposed route of Jammu metro, which is passing through busy residential areas.
According to the representation made by the residents and shopkeepers of Trikuta Nagar and Marble Market they have argued that the proposed metro route is passing through densely populated area and acquisition of land would be costly and cause a damage to residents, business houses and high rise commercial buildings.
“The Marble Market and Trikuta Nagar is a commercial hub and will get choked by huge traffic jams during construction period, which would be long. As the route passes through Trikuta Nagar Canal and piers and foundation of the Metro pillars will be too deep, which would damage the Canal, which is sole source of water for farmers. Moreover it will unduly destroy the peace of the people of Trikuta Nagar”, it reads, adding the proposed route would invite lots of financial loss to the government in terms of compensation to be paid to the owners for respective lands and recently build structures.

It will cause revenue loss to the government in terms of taxes, GST, cesses, income taxes etc which are paid by the already established business houses, which shall ultimately be destroyed if the proposed metro route is not realigned, it reads, adding that the loss will be beyond repairs for business houses, running for the last over 30 years.
It further reads, most shops in the area have been leased to young entrepreneurs on premium for running their businesses and they would get no compensation and ultimately be rendered jobless.
They have also proposed alternative routes for realignment of the Jammu metro, which would cause little hue and cry along with less financial loss to public and business houses.
“By taking metro route underground, damage of numerous public properties lying in between the proposed metro route. To take the metro route straight along the canal through greater Jammu without turning towards Marble Market and opening up right besides Audi Jammu showroom on NarwalKunjwani National Highway or through greater Jammu area”, it reads, adding that to take metro route along the already available vacant land on both sides of the railway line without damaging any public property.
It further reads, “The metro route should be taken along already available vacant land on both sides of the railway line without damaging the public property.” “To take the route atleast 100 metres away from the back of the Marble Market without demolishing the already established business houses functioning from the last 30 years and compensation required to be paid would be much less and least demolition will take place”, it reads.
Another alternate route suggested by shopkeepers and would pass along Panama Chowk-Transport Nagar-Narwal-SainikColony-Greater Kailash and through Asia-Satwari-Kunjwani-Greater Kailash.
The shopkeepers and residents have also attached a long list of shopkeepers and residents, who have endorsed their view on realignment of the route.
