Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 4: In a glaring example of discrimination with the Jammu region in particular and other areas of the Jammu province in general with regard to the promotion of tourism—The Big hoarding installed at Jammu Railway station which reads "Welcome to Jammu—gateway to heaven Srinagar"—contrary to the fact that “Lakhanpur” is consider as gate to the Jammu and Kashmir.
This is being seen a concerted move to promote the tourism of the Srinagar at the cost of Jammu province—that too has tourism potential areas which are still untapped and required to be explored so that same could be utilized by the tourists arrive from across the country so that they should be know about the scenic beauty of the areas of the Jammu and its peripheral areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Patnitop, Bhaderwah, Warwan, Padder, Rajouri and Poonch— the areas that are facing the abrupt discrimination due to the apathetic attitude of the tourism department which was not able to tapped the untapped areas of the Jammu province.
As per the details available with Early Times, a big question which haunts Jammuities is that— the hoarding has been installed at Jammu Railway station— but that promotes the tourism of Srinagar.
While talking to Early Times, the Jammuities lashed out at the tourism department for promoting tourism of Kashmir which is already promoted not only at National level, but internationally and what is intriguing and baffled is that how come Railway department and Tourism department allowed this big hoarding at the railway station which is thronged by the thousands of the tourists from across the country added that this clear message on the hoarding that the heaven is Srinagar means that Jammu and its other areas are not well picturesque and scenic which mocked at the beauty of the Jammu and its untapped tourism like that of Patnitop,Mansar, Surinsar, Sanasar etc.
“It is irony that tourism department who is entrusted with the sole job of promoting tourism without being biased is apparently in deep slumber or due to the monetary considerations— the tourism department allowed the big hoarding to installed it at Railway which left the Jammuities guessing and shocked” inform the locals.
Swarn Veer Singh, a social activist has taken pot shots against the tourism department and railway department for acting as mute spectator to this big hoarding due to which a wrong precedent. He said that he also moved a representation before the secretary to the tourism union territory Zubair Ahmed and apprised him regarding the hoarding which has been installed at railway station promoting the tourism of Srinagar at the cost of the other areas which is totally unwarranted, uncalled for and unjustified adding, that he also moved a representation before Government governor cell and apprise them about this hoarding as well.
One of the officials on the condition of anonymity showed ignorance with regard to this hoarding but admitted that secretary tourism has received the representation in this regard and assured that department will look into it.
