EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 26: Braving the Coronavirus crisis, which is mounting with each passing day in Union Territory of J&K, some Deputy Commissioners and the Divisional Commissioner Jammu have set new paradigms to serve the public during this crisis.
As on Sunday evening total number of Coronavirus infected persons has mounted to 523 with six deaths, however, 137 cases have recovered so far and 380 cases are still active.
According to some observers, who are closely monitoring the functioning of the bureaucracy in the Union Territory during the time of Covid-19 pandemic, said that there are several officers who are doing an exceptional job despite all odds while few of them are not upto the expectations.
Observers said that it has been learnt that the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma at Divisional level is doing an outstanding work. “The Div Com Jammu amid the lockdown, has been responding on public grievances received though social media. Even if someone share his/her complaints/ grievances through text messages, whatsapp and facebook, the Div Com is quick to respond,” they said.
Observers while minutely studying the performances of the Deputy Commissioners of various districts and other bureaucrats in the time of pandemic, said, “DC Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, DC Pulwama Dr Raghav Langer, DC Bandipora S A Mirza and DC Anantnag in Kashmir division while DC Kathua O P Bhagat, DC Rajouri Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, DC Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara and DC Udhampur Dr Piyush Singa and some other have done commendable job during the time of this emergency.”
They said that all these DCs deserve to be honoured by the Union Government.
Though we have shortage of basic infrastructure and allied material to combat this deadly virus but fortunately, some extraordinary officers acted swiftly with minimum resources and set examples for other as well.
“Above named officers are directly available for public 24x7 in one way or the other, public issues are being addressed on priority. Bandipora at present has highest number of positive cases (124) with one death and 23 recoveries while Srinagar district has total 85 cases including one death and 37 recovered cases till date,” they said, adding, the fight launched by district administration Srinagar led by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in the very beginning of the corona outbreak was pivotal in containing its spread.
“Srinagar, was the first city of J&K, where disinfectant tunnels were installed, presently there are over one hundred tunnels established there by the administration, on the other side in winter capital city Jammu few tunnels have been established till date,” they said.
Observers said that other bureaucrats, who are not up to the mark in their performance to deal with the crisis situation, should also learn from these frontline warriors.
