Embarrassed after arrest of Tariq Mir, BJP high-command seeks explanation from J&K unit
5/8/2020 12:53:53 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 7: Although some leaders of BJP have distanced themselves from arrested Sarpanch of the party Tariq Mir, this leader is becoming headache for the party at national level.
During national level debate on TV channels, BJP’s national spokespersons are finding it difficult to defend themselves when opposition parties drew their attention towards arrest of Tariq Mir by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for terror links.
Credible sources said that facing embarrassment after arrest of Tariq Mir, national leadership of the party has sought clarification from top leadership of J&K to give reply about those who have given shelter to the leader.
Credible sources said that some local BJP leaders, who are mostly found in Kashmir Valley, have given shelter to such leaders only to project that they have strong links in the Valley.
Tariq Mir, a Sarpanch from Shopian district of J&K arrested last week for Hizbul links. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the DSP Davinder Singh case.
According to sources in the NIA, Mir (30) was an “arms conduit”, and was supplying ammunition on a regular basis to Hizbul Mujahiddin and other terror organisations.
Mir had been on the NIA’s radar for a few months, after his name cropped up during the interrogation of Naveed Mushtaq Shah, the Hizbul militant who was caught travelling with J&K DSP Davinder Singh in a car in January this year. Singh was arrested with Shah and another Hizbul militant, Rafi Ahmed Rather, and lawyer Irfan Shafi on 11 January in Kulgam, while they were on their way to Jammu.
According to a source, the NIA found a link between how Naveed and Mir were in regular touch with each other, and how Davinder Singh played a role in facilitating the arms racket.
