Lockdown casts shadow on Eid celebrations in Chenab valley,s Kishtwar
5/25/2020 3:31:21 PM

Kishtwar May 24: Like in other parts of the world, Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Chenab valley,s Kishtwar District on Sunday remains a low-key affair as most of the faithful marked the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan by offering thanks giving prayers at home in view of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

As per the details available with Early Times, the festival is being celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala on Sunday, while the rest of the country will celebrate Eid on Monday.

No Eid prayers were offered in major Eid Gah and mosques of Kishtwar District as police enforced restrictions in most parts of the District Kishtwar including Kishtwar town. However as a symbolic gesture, few people offered Eid Nimaz at Jamia Masjid Kishtwar aimed tight security cover to thwart any attempt of mass gathering.

Most of the people preferred to offer Eid prayers at home either individually or in small groups comprising family members, the officials said.

However, there have been reports of congregation Eid prayers being offered in mosques located in the interior parts of cities and towns that too in small numbers comprises of Mohallah people.

Administration made announcements on public address systems, appealing people not to congregate for Eid prayers as restrictions were still in place as part of the lockdown.

The Children seems to be a very annoyed among the majority of the people as like previous occasions- they fail to celebrate Bakra Eid due to curfew imposition of Curfew following abrogation of Article 370 and now due to COVID 19 restrictions giving major dent to their Eidi collection (money given to children as token of love).

Many children talking to Early Times showed disappointment for not being allowed by the family members to go outside and restricted them to homes or to the homes of relatives.

Eid marks the end of the fasting month of Ramzan.
