Early Times Report

RAJOURI, May 26: Brooke Foss Westcott once said, “Great occasions do not make heroes or cowards; they simply unveil them to our eyes”.
Covid-19 pandemic is testing the endurance and strength of the country. Only those who rise in the face of adversity emerge as the real heroes of the nation. One such brave hearts are the Police personnel manning the streets during the country’s fight against the dreaded disease.
As India went into a nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of Covid-19, bringing movement to halt overnight seemed an impossible task. But not only country witnessed a largely successful lockdown but strict enforcement in red zones and containment zones due to the significant role played by the Police Department.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police from the day one of the lockdown looked active. Soon after the imposition of lockdown Police department assigned special duties to officers and the police personnel. They had a responsibility to implement all the orders of Government for containment of Coronavirus. As people were enjoying in their homes by spending time with their families, the police personnel were performing duties far away from their beloved ones.
Besides their own duties they also played important role in providing relief to the needy people who were affected due to lockdown. They helped people in medical emergencies and also ensured delivery of ration to the poor people.
One such humanitarian gesture came from a heroic cop, Inspector Sameer Jillani. Presently posted as Station House Officer in Rajouri District, he rose to the occasion amid lockdown to feed the patients and attendants at Government Medical College Rajouri.
When lockdown was announced on 21st of March strict restrictions were imposed in the district under Section 144. Hundreds of patients and their attendants at Government Medical College, Rajouri were left without eatables as no one could enter or leave the hospital premises to arrange the food. Jillani, despite being overburdened, provided cooked packed meals to hundreds of patients and attendants at GMC Rajouri for the past two months winning him accolades from the civil society.
