SRINAGAR, May 26: Death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 24 today as an elderly person from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district passed away at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
In the meantime, 91 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from the union territory. For the second consecutive day the Jammu division reported more cases than the Kashmir valley. While 54 cases were reported from Jammu 37 such cases came to the fore from the Kashmir valley.
Reports said that 90 years old man from Khaloora Kulgam was shifted to SKIMS after he developed some health related issues. The man passed away at the hospital in the early hours today. His Covid-19 test was carried out yesterday and the same was received as positive in the late hours yesterday.
So far 24 persons have lost their lives due to Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir. Srinagar district has recorded six deaths with Anantnag, Kulgam and Baramulla districts reporting four deaths each. Budgam and districts reported two deaths each while as Bandipora and Udhampur recording a death each.
In the meantime, Ramban district reported 29 fresh cases followed by Budgam 12 cases and Jammu 10 cases.
Srinagar reported seven cases, Baramulla six cases, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Poonch and Kathua four cases each, Reasi three cases, Pulwama, Udhampur and Samba two cases each, Kupwara and Kulgam one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 91 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 54 from Jammu division and 37 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1759. Also, one COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir division.
Moreover 24 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 15 from Jammu division and nine from Kashmir division. Out of 1759 positive cases, 902 are active positive, 833 have recovered and 24 have died; three in Jammu division and 21 in Kashmir division. It said that out of 1, 40,962 test results available, 1, 39,203 samples have been tested as negative.
Additionally, till date 1, 42,901 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32,714 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 62 in hospital quarantine, 902 in hospital isolation and 33,573 under home surveillance. Besides, 75,626 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 278 positive cases, 161 active positive, 113 recovered, four deaths; Kulgam has 228 positive cases, 207 active positive, 17 recoveries, four deaths; Srinagar has 189 positive cases, 57 active positive, 126 recovered, six deaths; Kupwara has 166 positive cases (including 01 case reported today) with 96 Active Positive, 70 recovered.
“Bandipora has 143 positive cases, 11 active positive, 131 recovered, one death; Baramulla has 143 positive cases, 41 active positive, 98 recovered, four deaths; Shopian has 129 positive cases, 22 active positive, 107 recovered; Budgam has 76 positive cases, 27 active positive, 47 recovered, two deaths; Ganderbal has 31 positive cases, seven active positive, 24 recoveries and Pulwama 28 positive cases, 18 active positive, 10 recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 109 positive cases, 73 active positive, 34 recoveries, two deaths; Ramban has 74 positive cases, 72 active positive, two recoveries; Kathua has 53 positive cases, 38 active positive, 15 recovered; Udhampur has 39 positive cases, 17 active positive, 21 recovered, one death; Samba has 29 positive cases, 19 active positive, 10 recoveries.
“Rajouri has 13 positive cases, nine active positive, four recovered; Poonch has 12 active positive cases; Reasi has nine positive cases, six active positive, three recovered; Kishtwar has eight positive cases, seven active positive, one recovered and Doda has two active positive cases,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin has advised the public to stay safe, if any one need to leave home for essential purposes like grocery shopping or to visit the pharmacy; always wear a face mask, if possible limit the trips or try other options like home delivery, visit as few different places as possible, keep at least two meters distance from others, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth and wash hands with soap and water before and after.
“People are strongly advised to avoid going to crowded places, as they are more likely to come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 and it is more difficult to maintain physical distance with others at these places”, as per the bulletin. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
