Is Azad going to quit Congress?
10/2/2020 11:33:14 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 2: Is Ghulam Nabi Azad going to quit Congress? This is one of the biggest suspense in the political circles of Union Capital as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha had dropped many hints about that during his speech in the Upper House some days back.
While speaking against Farmers’ Bill moved in the Upper House of the Parliament, Azad stunned everyone by stating that “this may be his last speech in the Rajya Sabha”.
Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Venkaiah Naidu immediately reacted and asked why he was saying this but the Congress stalwart leader ignored his question and started attacking the government on the Farmers Bill. Everybody sitting in the Upper House was stunned after Azad’s remarks, who as a mature politician, ignored queries of the members and continued his speech against the Farmers Bill.
After writing a letter before the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Azad has already adopted an assertive approach to show his strength to the high-command. Azad, one of the signatories of the letter that sought a leadership change in the party, has now called for internal elections and said that a president appointed without one may not even have 1% support of the leaders.
“Those office-bearers or state unit presidents or block district presidents who attack our proposal know that they will be nowhere when elections happen,” Azad told a section of media. “Otherwise, whoever is genuinely invested in the Congress will welcome the letter”, he said.
Azad's Rajya Sabha term is going to end in the month of February next year.
It is widely believed that after taking confrontation with high-command Azad is unlikely to get a seat in the Upper House.
After Azad's statement, there are speculations that senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge can be made the leader of the opposition instead of Azad.
Kharge was sent to the Rajya Sabha in June. Many people were looking at Kharge's nomination by writing Azad's letter too.
