NPP seeks withdrawal of frivolous FIRs against its leaders, workers
“BJP using administration to browbeat Panthers”
10/11/2020 12:31:58 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 10: A meeting of Panthers Party was convened today at Jammu under the chairmanship of Harsh Dev Singh to discuss the policies of oppression and repression unleashed by the administration at the behest of BJP against the opposition parties particularly JKNPP. The party leadership reprimanded the present regime for following two sets of norms in J&K, one for BJP and the other for opposition parties. The meeting was attended by Yash Paul Kundal, State President Young Panthers, Ex-Minister; Gagan Pratap, State Secretary, Capt Anil Gour, State Secretary; Parshotam Parihar, State Secretary Panthers Trade Union; Surinder Chouhan District President Jammu (Rural) besides other party leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Harsh Dev said that the BJP controlled administration had been indulging in persecution and harassment of NPP leaders for quite some time with a view to silence their voice against the govts omissions and commissions. “These more loyal than the king brand officers had booked several NPP activists and its leaders in the past in various frivolous cases only to please their political masters. And the recent episode wherein FIR was registered against Mr Balwant Singh Mankotia for alleged violation of covid guidelines further proved how the administration was being abused by the ruling party for promoting its politics of vendetta”, said Singh.
“It was strange that FIR was lodged against Mankotia barely for removing the concertina wires in Adarsh Colony area so as to allow the passage of some emergency vehicles from the area. And while the NPP president was booked at a time when several restrictions stood relaxed, the administration had failed to act against BJP leaders, its Ex-MLAs and Ex-Ministers who violated not only the NDM Act, Epidemic Discuses Act but had also defied the prohibitory orders under sec 144 CrPc issued by the competent Authority and concerned District Magistrates in Jammu, Udhampur and elsewhere”, lamented Harsh.
He pointed out that on July 10, when the govt had directed strict implementation of all SOPs and corona directives, the BJP activists led by Kavinder Gupta, ex-Dy CM and Yudhvir Sethi BJP leader took out a huge rally which passed through the Jammu city and even disrupted the vehicular traffic at Tawi Bridge for hours which was duly reported by media as well. No action however was taken and no FIR registered. Similarly one ex-BJP MLA had organized rallies in Dudu Basantgarh areas of District Udhampur on 12th June and 19th June wherein he openly provoked people for rioting and holding protests and processions”, rued Singh.
Cautioning the govt functionaries to refrain from indulging in political mis-adventurism, the NPP Chairman said that any attempt to browbeat or unduly harass the NPP leaders, workers on political grounds would invite stiff resistance and reaction from rank and file of the party.
