JK reports 589 fresh cases of Corona Virus, nine more people die in past 24 hours

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: The total number of Corona Virus positive cases in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 88,958 since 589 new cases of virus were reported today. The number of casualties reached 1,397 after nine people died due to virus in the past 24 hours.
Srinagar district reported 136 fresh cases of COVID-19 followed by Jammu district 118 cases, Anantnag district 39 cases, Budgam district 34 cases, Baramulla and Bandipora districts 32 cases each, Pulwama district 30 cases, Doda and Kishtwar districts 25 cases each, Ganderbal district 21 cases, Poonch and Reasi districts 13 cases each, Kulgam district 12 cases, Ramban district 11 cases, Rajouri and Udhampur districts 10 cases each, Kathua district nine cases, Shopian district eight cases, Samba district seven cases and Kupwara district four cases.
Srinagar and Jammu districts each reported two fresh deaths of Corona Virus followed by a death each in Baramulla, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Udhampur districts. So far 934 people have died due to the virus in Kashmir valley while as in Jammu division 463 people have died due to virus.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 589 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 241 from Jammu division and 348 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 88,958. Also nine COVID-19 deaths have been reported; three from Jammu division and six from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 770 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 349 from Jammu Division and 421 from Kashmir Division. Out of 88,958 positive cases, 8,124 are active positive, 79,437 have recovered and 1,397 have died; 463 in Jammu division and 934 in Kashmir division.
Out of 20, 48,631 test results available, 19, 59,673 samples have tested negative till date. Till date 6, 31,601 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 21,785 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 8,124 in isolation and 52,269 in home surveillance. Besides, 5, 48,026 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 17,944 positive cases, 1,715 active positive, 15,894 recovered, 335 deaths; Budgam has 5,697 positive cases, 397 active positive, 5,210 recovered, 90 deaths; Baramulla has 5,285 positive cases, 1,304 active positive, 3,845 recovered, 136 deaths; Pulwama has 4,463 positive cases, 271 active positive, 4,114 recovered, 78 deaths; Kupwara has 4,098 positive cases, 314 active positive, 3,713 recovered, 71 deaths.
“Anantnag has 4,038 positive cases, 347 active positive, 3,620 recovered, 71 deaths; Bandipora has 3,897 positive cases, 287 active positive, 3,568 recovered, 42 deaths; Ganderbal has 3,341 positive cases, 230 active positive, 3,081 recovered, 30 deaths; Shopian has 2,130 positive cases, 89 active positive, 2,006 recovered, 35 deaths; Kulgam has 2,049 positive cases, 92 active positive, 2,271 recovered, 46 deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 16,340 positive cases, 1,057 active positive, 15,044 recovered, 239 deaths; Rajouri has 3,132 positive cases, 288 active positive, 2,799 recovered, 45 deaths; Udhampur has 2,582 positive cases, 115 active positive, 2,440 recovered, 27 deaths; Doda has 2,527 positive cases, 179 active positive, 2,306 recovered, 42 deaths; Kathua has 2,342 positive cases, 53 active positive, 2,259 recovered, 30 deaths.
“Poonch has 2,161 positive cases, 559 active positive, 1,580 recovered, 22 deaths; Samba has 2,086 positive cases, 413 active positive, 1,648 recovered, 25 deaths; Kishtwar has 1,752 positive cases, 228 active positive, 1,510 recovered, 14 deaths; Ramban has 1,525 positive cases, 74 active positive, 1,439 recovered, 12 deaths and Reasi has 1,209 positive cases, 112 active positive, 1,090 recovered, seven deaths,” reads the bulletin. Out of 88,958 positive cases in J&K, 9,464 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least two meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
