Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 16: The results of 6th semester of University of Jammu have left the students shell shocked as many of them including the meritorious ones have been declared failed in Skill Elective Course (SEC), while in other subjects they have secured excellent marks.
Students informed Early Times that the University announced and uploaded the result notification of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com/B.B.A/B.C.A/B.Com (H)/B.A. English (H) 6th semester CBCS examinations 2020 on 16th of December evening and when some of them checked their results online, they were shocked to find themselves in reappear category in one of the elective course, while in other subjects the marks were as per their expectations and performance.
As per guidelines issued by the examination wing of University of Jammu, the Skill Elective Course (SEC) paper of 80 marks has to be conducted internally by the college administration as well as the assignment tests of 20 marks.
“In view of COVID-19 lockdown and non-completion of the syllabus, the authorities had announced open choice to the students and it was also instructed to the college authorities to conduct SEC for only 32 marks instead of 80 marks. The marks secured by the students in SEC out of 32 would have to be proportionately enhanced out of the total 80 marks, while assignment test was conducted for 20 marks,” sources said, adding that the evaluators had given the marks out of 32 but the University authorities instead of proportionately giving the marks out of 80, didn’t enhance the marks.
Sources said that due to failure of JU authorities, especially the examination wing, to proportionately enhance the marks, students failed in the SEC. “Many students, who have secured over 85 percent marks in other subjects have been marked as reappear in the SEC, which was shocking for them as they were eagerly waiting for the results,” a professor said.
Teaching fraternity informed that as the result was announced, their phones started ringing continuously from the students. “When we discussed the issue with teachers of other subjects, we reached to a conclusion that so many students cannot fail but it is due to error of JU authorities that so many students have been shown as failed”, the teachers said, adding that the JU authorities should fix the responsibility about such a blunder and seek an explanation from the concerned without any delay to save students from unnecessary despair.
Controller of examination University of Jammu, Prof Rajnikant said that the department has already taken cognizance of the matter and it probably looks like a human error. “The examination wing will soon issue another notification rectifying the mistake in some results,” he added.
