Police arrest cheater while being in ‘police uniform’ in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a man impersonating as a Police officer in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, a police spokesman said Sunday evening. He said Police received a complaint from a resident of village Kelam area of Devsar that a person came in contact with him and introduced himself as a Police Officer. The person assured the complainant that the case of his son who is under detention will be freed and demanded Rs one lakh to close the file. The complainant paid him Rs 5000 in advance to close the case before complaining at Police station. Acting promptly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Devsar and investigation was set into motion. Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team headed by SHO Devsar under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Arvind Kumar swung into action and arrested the accused identified as Umar Bashir Dar, resident of Brazloo Jageer. During questioning, the accused confessed about his involvement into the pre-planned crime. Further investigation of the case is in progress. General public are requested not to fall prey in the hands of such fraudulent people. Police have resolved to act tough against inimical elements. Locals of the area lauded the role and prompt action of police.
