Speculations rife about important announcement soon by GOI
After 4G, is Statehood restoration next?

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 6: A day after 4G in Jammu and Kashmir was restored after 18 months, speculations are rife that the central government may make importance announcement related to the restoration of statehood in the erstwhile state.
The high speed mobile data services were restored in twin J&K districts including Ganderbal in Kashmir and Udhampur in Jammu division on “a trial basis” on August 16, 2020. The services were suspended on August 05, 2019 when the government in centre abrogated the special status of J&K and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union territories.
Jammu and Kashmir government had on January 22 this year extended a ban on high speed mobile data services across the Union territory barring two districts till February 06.
Meanwhile, there are reports making rounds that the government of India is mulling to restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and that this measure will be followed by the delimitation process. As per the reports coming to fore, the government seems to have underlined the three important decisions- restoration of 4G, statehood and delimitation for this year. With 4G, restored in entirety, hopes are high that the government is about to make an important announcement about the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, at present even the mainstream political leaders have began raising the pitch for the restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad recently in parliament raised voice for the issue even when he pefferred silence on plethora of other matters.
“I never heard Atal Bihari Vajpayee or any BJP leader ever demanded that Jammu and Kashmir should be split into two. There was a demand for UT in only one district of Ladakh (Leh), not Kargil,” Azad said, adding: “Even though I would have been happy if Ladakh would have been made a UT and J&K left as it was”.
