JAMMU, June 19: Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal flagged off the 5th group of 92 college girls for the Dharamshala Himalayan programme being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K in the Dauladhars of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. With this the total participation in this programme has gone over 330 including 15 teachers.
The group is being led by Sonam Sidharth, a seasoned trekker and Shilpa Charak, an international sport climber and a trained mountaineer.
It also includes two more group leaders Vishali Sharma, a trained mountaineer and Suksham Verma, an experienced group leader. Prominent among others present on the flagged off occasion included President of Tawi Trekkers J&K Ram Khajuria, members of the club and parents of the students.
Addressing the budding female trekkers Jamwal who is also President of Mountaineering Association of J&K, expressed serious concern over drug menace in J&K and called for societal response alongside the efforts of the government as well as non-government organisations to wean away the youth from drugs by persuasion and motivation and bring them back to mainstream life without shame and sorrow.
Jamwal urged the youth to get united and be a part of the campaign against drug abuse. Pro-active campaigns with a spirit of love and compassion will surely help in preventing self destruction of those who have fallen prey to the addiction, he said. He advised the students to participate more and more in adventure activities and wished them all the best for their present trekking venture.
