Bashir Assad
JAMMU, Mar 7: It will be too early to interpret as to whether the failure of Rahul factor to make a mark in Utter Pradesh assembly elections and galvanise the large public gatherings into vote bank, will have national implications on the UPA government at centre, however, the failure of the idea of "Young India" brigade will have certainly direct bearings on the political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
Though it is too early to interpret all the national implications of the assembly polls in four states where Congress suffered a huge setback but its implications on Jammu and Kashmir are quite evident.
First, it is being widely acknowledged that J&K Chief Minister Omar...

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 7: The orders of the revenue officials and resentment of the locals notwithstanding, a broker continues to hold prime state land measuring 6 Kannals and 14 at Magarmal Bagh, Srinagar.
Early Times published a detailed report about the said land last year. The report had an impact and the concerned officials were seen in the area for a couple of days. But the `spirit' to liberate the piece of land died down as the time passed. The broker now intends to construct a shopping complex in what happened to be the first civil lines of the summer capital.
The Divisional Commissioner's office has passed several orders to prevent grab of the prized land by unsc...
| | Defeat of the Gandhis is comprehensive | UP Elections | |
Rustam
JAMMU, Mar 7: That the Sonia Congress was destined to suffer a comprehensive and humiliating defeat in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Punjab, Goa, and even Uttrakhand was a foregone conclusion and it actually happened. I will focus only on UP and not other states. UP rejected outright the Congress despite the fact that at least three Union Ministers, including Law Minister, and a large number of Congress leaders, including political guru of Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh, communalised the whole election scene. Despite the fact that the Congress violated to the hilt the Model Code of Conduct to woo the Muslim voters; despite the fact that the Congress election strategists made common cause wit...
| | Will people replicate Punjab & Goa in Jammu? | Municipal Elections | |
Neha
JAMMU, Mar 7: Elections results in UP, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Goa and Manipur are out. As expected, the Congress suffered disastrous defeat in UP, Punjab and Goa. In UP, the Samajwadi Party (SP) scored a spectacular victory. It won more than 222 seats in a House of 403 with Congress winning a paltry 27 seats. In Punjab where the Congress was expecting a big victory, it could win only 46 seats in a House of 117, 2 more as compared to its tally of 44 in 2007. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP-combine scored a splendid victory. In fact, Punjab created history. It happened for the first time in more than four decades that the people of Punjab voted for the party- in-power. The peopl...
