| About 18 people trapped in flash floods rescued | | | | JAMMU, JUNE 29
About 18 people were rescued by the security forces from different areas of Rajouri district where heavy rains have caused flash floods and damaged several houses, officials said here today.
Army helicopter was pressed into service for rescuing people trapped in flash floods in Rajouri river, Darhal Nallah, Thanamandi nallah and Muradpur area, they said, adding about seven people trapped in flash floods at different places in upper reaches of the district were also rescued.
Heavy rains lashed areas of Darhal, Thanamandi, Kalakote, Budhal, Kotranka and main town in the border district from 2 pm to 5 pm yesterday causing flash floods in nallahs and tributaries, they said.
Initial reports from different areas also indicated loss of livestock in the district.
In Kathua district the authorities have initiated rescue operation to save four persons-three children and a woman- who were trapped in Bagh nallah near Ujh river.

| Rape attempt by soldiers: Cops to file report | | | |

The Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Commission on Friday sought a detailed report from the state Director General of Police on the alleged attempt by two army men to rape a 17- year-old girl in Bandipora district.
Taking a suo-moto cognisance in the case, commission Chairman Justice (Retd) M Y Kawoos asked DGP Gopal Sharma to furnish a detailed report by or before July 30, a spokesman of the commission said.
The two army personnel accused of attempting to rape a minor girl inside her house at Kunan in Bandipora on Tuesday are in police custody.
