Ajay Meenia Jammu | Aug 9: There seems no end to the problems of the border areas. The inhabitants of RS Pura border who have been the victim of the frequent firing from the across the border in the past are confronted with several other problems. The residents had heaved a sigh of relief following ceasefire on the borders; little knowing what was for them in the store. With the construction of concrete dam on the zero line by the Pak authorities with poor drainage system, the vast chunk of land on this side of the border stand submerged leaving little chance to the farmers to cultivate the same and whatever land could be cultivated the crops suffered heavy damages due to the gushing water coming out of the dam. The entire water of the dam instead of passing through the drain flows through the agricultural lands making it uncultivable. The miseries of the farmers did not end here. Following erection of fence along the international border by the BSF too have added to the problems for farmers living near the borders as majority of them have been deprived to cultivate...

EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu, Aug 9: In an obvious snub to the anti-graft campaign, the Finance and Lal Minister Tariq Hamid Karra has objected to the State Vigilance Organisation's (SVO) request for reopening a case in which the chief minister had dropped charges against the accused officers. "There should be some finality in the decision of the competent authority (Chief Minister)," said Karra. The SVO had sought reconsideration of the cases involving some senior officials of the health ministry who were accused of corruption in purchases made for the department in 1999-2000. Surinder Singh Jammu, Aug 9: The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service is proving useful to the Indian Army and other security agencies in negotiating surrenders of Kashmiri militants living in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and other parts of Pakistan. An Indian army officer in Srinagar said that since the launch of bus service in April 2005, they have persuaded 200 militants to return to the Indian side to live normal life..
