| Has Hari Om given up on persuasion of VC? | | | | Jammu, Aug 22 The sudden announcement of resignation from active politics by Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) vice president and spokesman Prof Hari Om has taken everybody by surprise while the ruling Congress has heaved a sigh of relief with this decision of the BJP's hardcore loyalist and fiery writer.
While everybody is guessing over the decision of the BJP ideologue who has switched off all the connection with the outside world including his mobile phone, the reports of role of Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, one time arch ideological rival of Prof. Hari Om, in moulding the die hard pro-Jammu Professor has come under sharp focus.
Insiders, preferring anonymity, told News Agency of Kashmir that Prof Mattoo, in a bid to win over the beleaguered Congress chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, has played a pivotal role in moulding the head strong Professor to leave the active politics and play the role of an academician.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has addressed a joint session of Parliament on Wednesday.
It's a visit at a crucial time for India as Japan is a key member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Despite the Left's resistance to Indo-US nuclear deal, nuclear energy cooperation is likely to dominate talks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Abe.
India will be asking for Tokyo's support for the nuclear deal at the NSG which first has to agree to lift restrictions on nuclear trade.
But with the Japanese very sensitive on issues of nuclear proliferation convincing Abe may need some diplomatic manourevring.

Srinagar, August 22: Minister for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Hamid Karra and the leader of opposition Abdul Rahim Rather were today seen exchanging harsh words against each other in Legislative Assembly.
The two leaders were trading charges against each other when Karra accused Rather of failing to control his party MLAs despite the assurances given by him at business advisory committee meeting of cooperating with government during the session.
Annoyed by the allegations, Rather was heard saying "I smell Karra has gone mad."
