The centenary year of ‘Vande Matram’, a patriotic song written y late Bankim Chander Chatterjee which gave moral boost to the freedom fighters of the country to fight against the Britishers was celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the Jammu regions. Function was held at various educational institutions and political party HQs were leaders threw light on the importance of this national song.
The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee to celebrate the event organized a function at its office here, were MLA and Ex-Minster Yogesh Sawhney was the chief guest, While Distt. Chairman Congress Seva Dal, Shashikant Dhiman hoisted the tricolour. Present on the occasion were Kum. Tamana, Manju Bala, Harbans Lal, Chanchal Sadhotra, Madan Malagar, Ramesh, Pardeep Bhagat, Yash Pal Kapoor and Block congress presidents.

| Pak troop movements don't alarm Indian army | | | |
NEW DELHI: The Indian military is not seriously concerned over the noticeable movement of Pakistani troops close to the Jammu and Kashmir border.
Military officials say they have noted the troop movements but there is nothing alarming - for now.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, military sources said that they discounted the possibility of Pakistan conducting any surgical strikes in Jammu and Kashmir in view of its troubles domestically and along the Afghan border, a national news agency reported.

Jammu, Sep 7 Heavy rains and flood have caused extensive damage to the fencing along the Indo-Pak International border in Jammu and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir raising threats of infiltration.
Border Security Force (BSF) sources said the motor boats have been pressed into service for round the clock patrolling where larger area near fencing remains submerged in water for the last more than one week.
''The boat-patrolling along the border has also been intensified in low lying areas of river Chenab (Pargwal), Manawar Tawi in Akhnoor, Nikki Tawi island areas of Jammu, besides, some other parts of the 'Chicken Neck,'' the sources added.

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 7: Even as the centennial of Vande Mataram on Thursday sharply divided Hindu nationalists and Sikh and Muslim leraders, India's national song was sung across the country. The Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD), Arjun Singh, who was held responsible for sharp diferences between the two major communities on singing of the national song, led led hundreds of people, including school students, to sing the song.
